Kerry-shmerry

Hey, you know what?
This sun of a bun gave up!  I mean, he gave up, he made a speech

He surrendered. Before the votes were counted.

Fucking loser!

Perhaps you are right, but I am glad that my canditate did what I consider to be the honorable thing.

Well, a couple of things. Firstly, a protracted election leads to instability in America, so given the vanishingly small chance of the Ohio going Democratic, Kerry did the right thing by conceding. Secondly, I would feel very ambivalent about my party pumping money into lawyers to challenge a close election in 1 state when it is clear that the popular vote in the whole country favors the other candidate. I realize that the electoral college is the law of the land, but on the whole a president who loses the popular vote, but wins the electoral votes and thereby presumes he has the right to govern has no mandate and no honor.

That also happens to be what I think of Bush's first term.

Yes, but I don't mean lawyers, I meant wait until it's over, until everything is set and clear! The markets could handle one day of a delay and he would've walked away saving his face.

Now just think of republicans in the bible belt who laugh at the slick guy from Massachusetts who chickened away immediately?

I don't know if you are aware of the fact that the provisional ballots in Ohio will not be counted until Nov. 11th by state law, to make sure that all the absentee ballots (which have to be postmarked by Nov. 1st) had a chance to arrive to the election board. So the choice was to concede now, or to wait until Nov. 12th.

And what happened to "we'll fight for every vote"? He went back on his word. That's not honorable.

The ability to use common sense instead of blindly sticking to every word he ever said is one of the reasons I think John Kerry would have made a great president for this country.

Yes, and this is how long he should have waited. Or longer.

Meanwhile, he ought to get busy collecting data to ascertain whether or not theft of votes has occurred. More likely than not, that was the case as detailed preparations for that were underway well before the Election. I've documented some, if you are interested:

Given the no-holds-barred attitude of the neocons currently in power, gentlemanly rules no longer apply.

I agree. NO politician should be too hasty to lose. It just doesn't look good...

I respectfully disagree.

Although popular vote count may have greater appeal than electoral college, the latter is the legal reality. Campaigning strategies of both candidates are based on the electoral college system, so the fact that Gore won over Bush in 2000 in terms of popular vote does not automatically mean that he would have won had the count been by popular vote (similarly, neither does Bush's victory now demonstrate the he would have won if the popular voe had counted).

У меня есть подозрение, что Керри бы не прочь помедлить - ему не быть кандидатом в 2008 - а вот партия этого не допустила, ей-то негоже выставлять себя на посмешище.
